What’s next after the age of information?

It has been more than a decade since the world has gone through the age of data explosion. More data is being generated and passed through our cone of attention than ever before in history. The bright side and the dark side of the information age has been discussed for far too many times, but what’s more interesting is to see where this is headed and how it will shape our species as a whole.

Data is being created every day in the form of entertainment, information, opinions and scientific discoveries. The last decade showed us how the one with the most data controls the world but moving forward, the one who knows how to creatively use this sea of information is going to be of most value to the world, if not the world to his country, city or his community.

There are tons of data we imbibe everyday and yet to imbibe what’s being created we still use primitive ways of information processing. How we process time is also a crucial factor in how we process and how much of the information we process. It is so easy to drown in this ocean of data, to be distracted and lose track of time is the biggest threat of our generation. However, you cannot completely go off the grid, unless you want to lead an hermetic life. So, not being overwhelmed by the tidal wave of information that hits you through the internet has become a necessary skill that one has to master.

Mastering time management has always been a necessary skill but it is going to become that much more complicated in the future. As we understand this importance the one who bends time the most will have a marked advantage than those who dissolve in this grand ocean of data. I envision a future where gadgets could warp time in your brain and let you watch 2 hour movies in a span of 2 minutes, read a book in minutes or learn a language in an hour. everybody will have their own simulated space linked to their brain where you could go and spend countless hours honing new skills and indulge yourself in all forms of entertainment and still come back and not lose your day.

A version of the future is not far off where anybody can learn Kung-fu like neo but they won’t be fighting the machines to wake up from the matrix, they’ll use their own individual matrix to fight each other better.
